International Christian Tennis Association’s ICTA Women’s Pro Tennis Team captain, Melody Snelen, journeyed with ICTA Outreach to Benin City, Africa for a 2 tournament, 3 week outreach.

In her main draw match of the first tournament, Melody lost to the eventual tournament finalist. The match was close and intense. A large crowd of Nigerians filled the national stadium.

After the match, Melody was in tears and went to be by herself. As she was crying, local youth came to comfort her. She wasn’t crying because she lost, as much as she was crying because of the intensity of the moment.

I like this picture because it shows the heart of Nigeria. Nigerians are among the most amazing people in the world. Their hearts are as big as their smiles. They are the pride of Africa.

And these children will be forever Melody’s kids.

Christian tennis academy summer camper, Brendan, came to us from the Bahamas.

Loaded with talent and potential, Brendan thrived in our twice daily training. Yet, his growth off court was the more stunning. Full of anger and confusion, Brendan had loads of questions for me concerning politics and faith.

By the end of summer, Brendan’s life had completely transformed.

This picture, to me, represents Brendan as I remember him… smiling and laughing and a complete pleasure to know.

International Christian Tennis Association’s Academy students truly enjoy being with each other. In this picture they are driving back from Daytona Beach and wanted to stop and get Slurpees.

Newbie (rt) I have coached for several years, both part time and full time. He is very special to me. Graduating from high school this year, Newb plans to spend a full year with me as a full time academy student before going to college.

Mark (lt) is completing his 2nd year of training with me. He is an amazing person and I expect big things from Mark in his life.

In the back are Adam (lt) and Rand (rt). Adam is the son of my neighbor and has been a part of our lives for the last 4 years. His dad is an ordained reverend and a former tennis pro. Needless to say, Adam’s dad and I are great friends.

Rand has been training with me on a weekly camper basis for a year now. He is funny, athletic, and one neat kid to hang around. His parents and sister, Caroline, are extremely wonderful and I appreciate their support and friendship.

This picture is special to me because these guys are so unique and each come from such different lives and backgrounds that it is exciting to see God bring them together, and I enjoy being part of it all!

International Christian Tennis Association founder, Scott Paschal, enjoys jamming after a Christian even with Kara and Shantel, two of his tennis academy students and 2006 members of the ICTA Women’s Christian Pro Tennis Team.

ICTA brings all our Christian tennis academy students and all pro player tennis missionaries to fantastic Christian concerts and leadership conferences as part of our ICTA Discipleship Training programs.

I enjoyed this picture because it lets people see a fun side of me, and because Kara was have such a great time!

ICTA Outreach journeyed to Memphis, Tennessee for a big, indoor combined WTA and ATP pro tournament. Andy Roddick, Venus Williams, and many other top players were competing.

This painting stood out to me. The artist is a multiple-time cancer survivor. We have become friends and he is a member of the International Christian Tennis Association.

While I couldn’t afford to purchase the painting, even at a generously discounted price, I did take this picture and often look at it on my computer.

The colors, the action… so fantastic.

Melody Snelen smiling for a picture after Nexxus company representatives styled her hair at the 2007 Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, California.

International Christian Tennis Association journeyed from Florida to California for a large-scale ICTA Outreach to the Pacific Life Open, the world’s 6th largest pro tournament.

Melody graciously volunteered her time to make this entire outreach a reality. Without her help, I would not have been successful with this event. Offering free Christian materials to nearly 300,000 people is, at best, ridiculously difficult and time consuming.

In addition to multiple Satanic attacks from people trying to have ICTA removed from the Pac Life after we arrived, we endured satanic attacks from people trying to keep us from gaining an Outreach Booth during the weeks before the Pac Life!

Melody Snelen was amazing with helping me transport all 5 missionaries, packing and distributing outreach supplies, scheduling flights and car rentals, meeting and speaking with people at the Outreach Booth, all while caring for the other missionaries and maintaining the bookkeeping for International Christian Tennis Association.

This picture is special to me because it shows how truly special and beautiful Melody is both inside and out.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Campus President, Emma Hustad, came to Paris with ICTA Outreach for the 2007 French Open.

I coached Emma at my academy all summer, and she served as my intern helping ICTA in many ways.

Emma also traveled with the ICTA Women’s Pro Tennis Team journeying to as far away as Israel.

In this picture Emma and I are getting coffee during breakfast the day after our missions team arrived in Paris, France. We were all sleepy, happy, and had absolutely no idea of the amazing adventure God had in store for us!

This picture means a lot to me because Emma came into my life at an important time and God used her for me and for International Christian Tennis Association in special ways.

These three wonderful young ladies represent the foundation of the International Christian Tennis Association Women’s Professional Tennis Team.

Melody Snelen, Anastasia Kharchenko, and Rachel Snelen compete on the ITF Pro Circuits worldwide. Each tournament the they play is a Christian outreach.

One of the goals of the ICTA Women’s Pro Tennis Team is to help Anastasia reach a top 100 WTA ranking. Why? Because before Anastasia was a team member, she was actually a tournament player who was enduring unspeakable abuse.

The 2006 ICTA Women’s Pro Tennis Team met Anastasia and learned of her difficulties, then immediately offered her safety at the tournament followed by safety at ICTA’s international headquarters in Florida.

Soon after arriving in Florida, Anastasia became a Christian and has since dedicated her life to serving others through Christian outreaches.

This picture, taken after Church, is special to me because of the radical change which has taken place in Anastasia’s life in the 1.5 years I have been blessed to be her coach and her adopted dad.

This was a tough picture for me to take.

We met these people when we entered the market to purchase produce for our missionaries during our 3 week outreach to Benin City, Nigeria.

I wanted to take this shot because the young girl has so little in this world, and will most likely become the old woman.

Here in America, our kids take so much for granted… as do we all.
